Our Vision
Enhance human flourishing and prosperity by strengthening a network lead by youth to promote liberal values and increase political literacy through both bottom to top and top to bottom level approach.
Our Objectives
- Empower youth to be the leaders of the nation in transforming Sri Lanka to a better version.
- To promote liberal political values in Sri Lanka
- To enhance political literacy in Sri Lanka
- To enhance inclusive politics in Sri Lanka.
- To establish an academic think tank consisting of pool of experts and specialists to provide research and development to formulate policy reforms for a new Sri Lanka by addressing corrupt and outdated legal regulations and social practices that violate the liberal values of individual liberty, individual rights, free market, free choices, the rule of law and democratic institutions.
- In order to make these policy reform proposals a reality on the ground, Liberal Youth Movement aims to groom to a strong pressure group that can influence the legislature and the executive to implement these proposals as laws of the country.
- Operate as the bridge to connect youth from all regions of the country and to provide them with support for development of communication, leadership, social and technical skills and facilitate linkage for greater access to opportunities.
- To collaborate, affiliate and cooperate with other similar organizations (local and foreign), institutes (local and foreign), universities (local and foreign), private and cooperate sector to achieve the primary objectives of the movement.
Unique Approach
We will be the highly qualified think tank for political and social policy reforms based on liberal values in Sri Lanka and we will be the strongest pressure group influencing the political process to implement those liberal reforms.
For last three months, we have been able to prove who we are, what we stand for and the way we work to achieve our goal not by word but by our action. Our continuous educational program on liberal political, economic and social values is one good example to showcase our hard work and immense contribution to achieve our major objective, enhancing political literacy from the grass root level.
In addition, whenever liberal values and fundamental rights are being threatened, we have come forward fearlessly and taken all necessary measures to protect liberal values and individual rights within the legal framework of Sri Lanka. Fundamental Rights Petition filed by the co conveners of Liberal Youth Movement challenging emergency regulations can be illustrated as the best example to showcase our action on ground.
The robust growth of our movement shows our success. We have been able to attract the attention of society by the impressive service we have rendered to the society during last three months. Among many well-wishers, more than 500 young people from all over the country have joined during these three months and voluntarily serve to realize the objectives of the movement.
Our members are our asset and it’s a great privilege that our members cover almost all the regions of the country from Jaffna to Matara and Colombo to Batticaloa. They represent different professions, careers and businesses. Some of them are post graduates and graduates while some of them are under graduates and fresh school leavers.
Young people join us on a daily basis and we are proud to say that we are the fastest growing youth group in Sri Lanka at the moment. Our aim is to grow numerically by gathering young people from all over the country to promote and practice these liberal values.
We deny the notion that a liberal transformation of the country can be achieved by the participation of only one layer of the society. In contrary, we thoroughly believe that in order to establish a society support for free market, individual liberty, economic rights and opportunities for free choices can only be gained through the broad participation of all Sri Lankans.
Therefore, we have designed our programs to be inclusive of every group of people in Sri Lanka and we have embarked on the task of educating each and every layer of society on liberal values in a more comprehensible manner.
A large number have gathered around us. We have the potential to grow further numerically. Now we need your support to continue our high quality researches to make this country a better place.

Why do you need us?
Even though the current crisis came in a face of economic form, it is our understanding that the current crisis is a result of continuous betrayal of liberal values, liberal assumptions, individual rights, rule of law, and democratic institutions for a long period of time. In order to find solutions to this crisis, the root causes of the economic crisis must be addressed. No one can deny the fact that this economic crisis is a result of erroneous and arbitrary political decisions and corrupt institutions. The economic crisis led the society to its unrest and repercussions were severe. Social stability is vital for a stable political environment. Without having stable political institutions, economic reforms cannot be achieved. Therefore it is clear that the political, social and economic issues cannot be solved separately from each other, but to be solved together since they operate in nature of a cycle.
The free economic, social and political transformation that you are looking for our country cannot be achieved only influencing legislators or top layer of the country. The idea of such transformation must be supported by the majority of the country. For that people from all social layers should be persuaded. At the moment we are addressing all social layers through our educational sessions and we are succeeding in winning them towards liberal values. At the same time, a large group of young people have gathered around us who are already contributing voluntarily
